There's more to design than just what's on the table.
When designing a room, one often jumps immediately into the furnishings and decor. Its hard not to pick that color of paint that matches perfectly with that one picture frame you love that doesn't match any other room in your house and that table you saw in HomeGoods last week. You've also looked around the room and realized that you need certain light fixtures to create the setting you want--but have you looked down?
The floor is the first step, literally, into and for any room.
Although floors may be one of the last items to be installed, they should be one of the first items selected during any new construction or remodeling project. Waiting too long to select flooring can create negative effects on the overall project. Lack of planning can also cause problems in respects to staying within a set project budget, which could leave you to settle for something other than your first choice.
Things to Consider:
Floors are the largest design surface of any room, the foundation of your entire design, and are the first thing people see when they walk in.
Lighting changes the color of your floor.
Lifestyle Wear & Tear. Where the floors are going effect what floor type should be chosen.
Floors are the most costly to replace down the road.
Next time you begin a new project, rather than looking up and around--look down!
